Today, I’m introducing a useful tool for making image backgrounds transparent that I’ve used frequently.
In the course of work, there are often times when you need to remove a background. It can be burdensome to sign up somewhere or pay for it, so I’m sharing a simple, free method to erase backgrounds.
In my case, I needed to create a favicon that displays in the browser.
(A favicon is an image used as an icon for each website. If you enter any site, in Chrome, it’s the icon on the left side of the tab.)
It looks fine when viewing that specific site, but as shown below, when viewing other sites, if the background isn’t transparent, it doesn’t look pretty, so I needed to make the background transparent.
This image now has a transparent background, so only the icon appears nicely, but if the background were white, it would look awkward, wouldn’t it?
The Tool I’m Introducing Today is!
No, actually, it’s a website. The site link is below.
Free Background Remover - Remove Image Background Online Free | Photoroom
Before choosing this site, I searched and tried several similar sites that seemed to offer a free service, but most required a signup for image download.
Here’s why I recommend this site:
-
No signup is required.
-
It accurately determines the boundaries between the background and the subject to make the background transparent.
-
You can download it instantly for free (without signing up).
Uploading the image, removing the background, and downloading it takes about 10 seconds, not to exaggerate ;-)
The drawback is that the image size that can be processed and downloaded instantly for free without signup is $1280 \times 1280$.
For me, this size is sufficient, so I’ve been using it very effectively.
Now, let’s briefly look at the process of erasing (making transparent) the background.
First, visit the site.
Then, upload the necessary image. It supports $Ctrl+V$ to paste and drag and drop. That’s it, lol. I pasted the image below; currently, it’s hard to tell because the background is white, but it’s an image with a white background.
Just by pasting the image, it automatically detects and processes the background.
Next, all you have to do is download it using the download button on the bottom right.
There are standard resolution and high resolution downloads; the standard resolution is $1280 \times 1280$.
Unfortunately, if you need to download a higher resolution, a signup is required.
We’ve briefly learned how to make a background transparent so simply that there’s hardly any explanation needed.
I would be most pleased if you find this useful. Thank you.
